Common Questions regarding plastering

  • What happens if my ceiling / walls are suspected to contain Asbestos ?

We can arrange to have samples sent off for specialist testing that will confirm the presence of Asbestos

  • Are floors protected whilst plastering is carried out ?

Yes, we use Roll & Stroll carpet and Hardwood protector . We also use disposable sheeting to protect furniture if it cant be removed from the room

  • Do rooms need to be empty ?

We prefer rooms completely empty to avoid dust and damage that may occur whilst plastering is undertaken. We make every effort to cover and protect furniture

  • What is monocouche render ?

Monocouche render is colored render that once applied does not need painting and is virtually maintenance free

  • How should fresh plaster be painted ?

We recommend ‘mist’ coating fresh plaster work by either watering down trade matt paint (70-30%) ratio. This helps seal the plaster with subsequent coats being easier to apply . Fresh plaster paint is available from most retailers

  • What is an overskim ?

Overskimming is applying fresh plaster to existing walls / ceiling . We use bonding agents to help adhere plaster to surfaces such as gloss/ artex .

  • Should plaster be shiny or like glass ?

A common misconception is that skim plaster should look shiny or like glass . Skim plaster should be left flat with a Matt finish.

Shiny plaster will make painting harder and is subject to peeling.
